About Us
NEXT architecture is a Pittsburgh-based architecture and interior design firm known for collaborative, design-forward projects. Our work is rooted in strong client relationships, interdisciplinary teamwork, and the belief that the best design emerges when architecture and interiors are developed together - from concept through completion.
We are seeking a mid-level Interior Designer (5-8 years experience) to join our team. This role is ideal for a designer who enjoys both design development and technical rigor, values collaboration, and is looking to grow into a senior design or project management role over time.
About the Role
This is a team-based design role, working closely with project managers, architects, and fellow interior designers across multiple project types. While this position is not expected to independently lead projects initially, you will have meaningful design responsibility, creative input, and ownership of interior documentation from early design through construction.
You will be trusted as a professional - contributing ideas, detailing projects thoroughly, and supporting project teams with both technical precision and design intent.
Typical Time Allocation
- ~20% Concept & design development
- ~60% Construction documentation & detailing
- ~20% Client interaction, presentations, and coordination
Projects are primarily interior-focused Band generally progress from design to construction within a year, offering designers the satisfaction of seeing work fully realized. Project types vary however, workplace, higher education and multi-family are our primary market sectors.
What You'll Do
- Develop interior design concepts collaboratively with architects and project items.
- Produce comprehensive construction documents, including plans, interior elevations, details, finish schedules, and furniture plans
- Select and specify finishes, materials, and furniture systems
- Present design ideas internally and assist with client presentations
- Coordinate with consultants and internal project managers
- Guide and support junior designers as part of a collaborative studio environment
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited Interior Design program
- 5-8 years of professional interior design experience
- Knowledge or general understanding of ADA and building codes
- Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Bluebeam, and Adobe Creative Suite
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines with organization and clarity
- Clear written, verbal, and graphic communication skills
- NCIDQ certification (or active pursuit) preferred
