Pittsburgh Self Storage in South Side Flats info

Pittsburgh, PA

NEXT architecture completed the 118,000 square foot Self Storage building located the South Side neighborhood of Pittsburgh. The goal of the project was to maximize storage space on the irregular site while preserving the prominence of the adjacent church. The footprint and height of the building was driven by the site layout, a large existing retaining wall at its South and East edge, and the Pittsburgh zoning code. Due to the retaining wall and church location, the four story building was pushed to the rear of the site and two one story structures were provided at the edges. The use of materials is meant to mimic Pittsburgh’s past in modern form. The one story structures were designed with the use of corten steel and the main four story building uses corrugated metal to reflect like warehouse buildings of the past.
